Kristen Zschomler, owner of the Minneapolis-based historical consulting firm Sound History, LLC, is a professional historian and professionally registered archaeologist with over 30 years of experience studying the past to bring it to light for the future. She researches, writes, and leads tours about places associated with Prince, the development of “The Minneapolis Sound”, and music history in the Twin Cities. Her research and fact-checking (she always relies on two or more primary sources before making a claim) of Prince’s journey from Minneapolis’ Northside to Paisley Park is a revealing excavation that challenges long-held narratives and perceptions about Prince. She also used her work to get two places associated with the artist recognized as historically significant through the National Register of Historic Places. Kristen is also a co-founder of the International Centre 4 Prince Studies, which holds academic conferences and publishes journals on the burgeoning Prince academia studies. In addition, Kristen's expertise in Prince's story has led to her being called on to give media interviews. This includes verifying if archive film footage discovered by WCCO, CBS Minnesota, from 1970 featured an interview with a young Prince Rogers Nelson. It did, and the story was picked up with Kristen quoted in media worldwide including, The New York Times, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, CNN and more.
